Some of you have recently received a letter or email asking you to call and verify your membership information. I want to assure you that this is a legitimate member data verification project authorized by The American Legion.

The project is being conducted through Publishing Concepts, Inc. (PCI), a company that has partnered with many American Legion departments and other nonprofit organizations to assist with member data verification and historical preservation projects.

The purpose of the project is to:
  • Verify and update member contact information.
  • Correct missing or outdated information in membership records.
  • Give members the opportunity, if they wish, to share their military service or American Legion story as part of preserving our organization’s history.
  • Participation is voluntary. If you choose to participate, we recommend providing only the information necessary to update your membership record, such as your address, phone number, email address, and basic military service information.
Please do not provide your Social Security number, banking information, or other sensitive financial information. The only time payment information would be requested is if you voluntarily choose to purchase an optional commemorative publication or other item offered by PCI.

Any stories shared may be preserved as part of The American Legion’s historical archives and may be included in commemorative publications produced through the project. Purchasing any publication is completely optional.

 September 07 Labor Day
Labor Day in the United States is a federal holiday celebrated on the first Monday of September to honor and recognize the contributions of American workers to the nation's prosperity and development. It originated in the late 19th century during the Industrial Revolution, when workers faced long hours and poor conditions. The first Labor Day parade was held on September 5, 1882, in New York City, organized by the Central Labor Union. Oregon was the first state to officially recognize Labor Day as a public holiday in 1887. By 1894, thirty states celebrated Labor Day, and it became a federal holiday under President Grover Cleveland.

Patriot Day in the United States is observed annually on September 11 to remember those who were injured or died during the terrorist attacks in 2001. It is also known as 9/11 or September 11.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day in the United States is observed on the third Friday of September each year. This day honors those who were prisoners of war (POWs) and those who are still missing in action (MIA).
